What is it?

The children’s shopping tour is an annual event sponsored by local organizations, churches, businesses, and individuals that has been going on for the past 55 years in Pampa.  The object of this project is for children to have a Christmas of significance and to experience the joy of giving at Christmas.

Each year two volunteers are responsible for taking one to two children shopping at Walmart.  Each child receives a budget for each member of his family.  The child decides what gift they will buy for each member of the family, and the volunteer assists as needed.  After shopping, the child and the volunteers return to the Optimist Club to wrap gifts, eat lunch, visit Santa, and hear the message of the “Reason for the Season” prior to being returned to their homes.

If you are interested in Chaperoning a child during this year's event or assisting with wrapping gifts, just click the link above for additional information.

Our mission is to teach children the joy of giving.  Each year we take between 50-100 children Christmas shopping for their families.  For many, this is the first time they experience the joy of giving at Christmas.
